Here’s how to make math centers SIMPLE! 🤩👇 Hands-down the most popular time of day in first grade is Guided Math Rotations! 💗 This system is SO easy to manage! Each day after our whole group mini lesson, students visit 3 stations: 🌟 Teacher Table: For small group instruction with me where we have hands-on, guided practice on our learning objective 🌟Math Tub: Students work with a partner and complete 1 tub activity each day. We use a lot of math center routines so these activities don’t take a lot of time to introduce and students can work independently. The numbers next to the names tell students which tub to work at that day! 🌟 Independent Work: either math technology or independent work (this could be workbook pages or a math folder) When I’ve had bigger classes, I’ve also done 4 groups/4 rotations, but 3 is my favorite because it is less overwhelming! 🫶 🤩 You can read more about our Guided Math block in my blog post! That way I can show students what direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice looks like for math. They’ll be better prepared for our actual first math curriculum lesson the following Monday. Not only that, but the Counting On strategy helps students be able to find the answer to any addition fact. That means I can also show students our fast finisher math games the first week of school and they can successfully solve the facts involved. 🙌 Want to see how I fit it all in? 🙋‍♀️ Make sure to comment STEAL to steal a copy of my first week of school plans. These are great for 1st-3rd grade teachers. These are all typed out in a google doc for you. Just tweak things to your needs. It will save you so much time and energy! P.s.
