To make skin look:
• pale,
• bluish,
• stiff and frosty—
makeup artists apply special cold-tone palettes, ice sprays, and even crystalized salt.
Salt sparkles like frost in the light ✨
Glycerin adds that wet, frozen shine.
The “cold breath” is often CGI
That white mist you see coming from the actor’s mouth?
Most of the time…
It’s added digitally.
Warm studio + warm water = zero real condensation.
Ice chunks in the water are FAKE
Those floating “icebergs”?
Usually lightweight plastic props.
They look real but:
• don’t melt,
• aren’t sharp,
• won’t injure actors.
So next time you watch someone “freeze” in a movie… remember:
