If I feel nothing, no one can hurt me again. One explodes.
The other disappears. Neither is emotional maturity.
Neither is bad.
Both are unfinished coping strategies. Real emotional maturity isn’t controlling feelings.
It’s staying present while they move through you
without dumping them on others
and without abandoning yourself. If this landed, it’s not because you’re broken.

So being chosen didn’t just feel good… it felt like validation. Like worth. Like security. A therapist said, “If you’re always trying to avoid upsetting them, you’re not in a relationship – you’re in training.” 3. You normalize chaos by calling it passion. One client said, “The calm felt boring – I thought the anxiety was love.” When you grow up with inconsistency, peace feels unfamiliar.
