❌ Memorizing words won’t make you fluent. Learning grammar rules won’t either. Here’s what will. 👇🏻 🔑 The first thing you should start with is pronunciation, most learners skip this step, but it’s crucial. Learn the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) chart to understand every English sound and train your mouth to pronounce them correctly. Just this step alone will make a huge difference in how natural you sound. 🔑 Next, use the imitation technique. Listen to native speakers. whether in movies, interviews, or YouTube videos, and mimic them, even if you don’t understand the words yet. This will help you absorb the rhythm and intonation of the language, making your speech sound much more natural. 🔑 When it comes to vocabulary, don’t fall into the common trap of trying to learn too many unnecessary words. Focus only on useful, everyday vocabulary, the words and phrases you’ll actually use in real-life conversations. 🔑 For grammar, keep it simple. Don’t waste time memorizing every single rule. Start with just three tenses: present simple, past simple, and future simple. That’s all you need to begin speaking. Overloading yourself with grammar will only slow you down, making you overthink and worry about mistakes. The key to fluency is speaking every day, whether it’s talking to yourself, recording your voice, or practicing with others. 🔑 Most importantly, treat English as a skill, not a school subject. You’re not learning to pass a test, you’re learning to communicate. If you focus on improving your ability to speak and understand rather than just memorizing rules, fluency will come much faster. This method helped me become fluent in just one year, and I truly believe you can do the same with the right approach! 🔑 And to help you reach your goal Even faster l’ve put together a powerful eBook bundle that gives you exactly what you need to run any conversation smoothly and never feel stuck again. ⭐️ Essential words & phrases for real-life conversations. ⭐️ Idiomatic expressions to sound more natural, especially in the workplace. ⭐️ A workbook to reinforce what you learn so it actually sticks. 📌 It’s linked in my bio 🔗

Animation showing the reason behind British English IPA variations. Old-fashioned Received Pronunciation like the accent King Charles speaks with had different vowel positions to modern 'standard' British English in southern England like Ed Sheeran's accent.

You can see on the vowel grid that the mouth positions are different for the 2 speakers, with the exception of /ɜː/ and /əː/ which are pretty similar. There is no ideal solution to creating a British English phonemic alphabet, the vowel system needs roughly 20 phonemes and accents are changing fast, so there is always going to be an element of interpretation on the learner's side. The question is whether publishers should try to keep up or simply stick to last century's symbols and leave learners to interpret them.
