U.S. Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Eric M. Smith emphasized America's combat experience as a strategic advantage over China during remarks at the Reagan National Defense Forum. "It’s easy to bluster, but it’s another thing to go toe-to-toe and into harm’s way," Smith said, referencing the U.S. military's recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. "We’ve built a culture of warrior excellence, warfighting, and interoperability in the joint force. The PRC has not had to deal with that in decades." Highlighting the gap, Smith added, "Our last combat was captured on somebody’s iPhone 14. The Chinese’ last combat was captured on oil and canvas. They should not forget that."
