SEI got a couple of these comments after I posted my first mending video of this sweater, and i just wanted to scream! And then sit down with each of the commenters and have a heart to heart conversation about textile waste and the beauty and power of mending ☺️.
But seriously this comment sucked for about five different reasons. I completely understand that many people don’t have the time, skill or desire to mend a sweater, but viewing it as a waste of time rather than respecting someone else’s passion… what’s up with that?
I see people doing things all the time that I can’t relate to and would drive me nuts (bird watching, making the same block-based quilt pattern more than once 😂). But my reaction is “I love that for them” and “someone needs to watch all those birds and if it makes them happy then I’ll chip in to buy them new binoculars”.
Never would I dream of commenting on someone’s post where they are making their second or third version of the same block-based quilt pattern with “boring! Throw that pattern away”. 😂
What was I talking about? Oh right! Look how good the cuff mend turned out!

I did some colorful visible mending of several cat claw holes on this old RTW shawl of mine.
My squares are certainly not perfect as I get the hang of using the tool, but very fun and deeply satisfying!

KOI've been experimenting with different fiber contents for my handwoven patches, and the results have been pretty fun. The patch in this video was supposed to be two pieces, but I decided to keep it as one longer piece despite the uneven shrinkage since the overshot pattern was done in wool. I placed this patch over a previous mend. This is the third elbow mend for this shirt and I think it will last much better than previous ones because it is so robust.

THHere’s to treating our clothes with the care and whimsy they deserve ✨. Visible mending using a duplicate stitch on one of my favorite sweaters. I really like how this side turned out - let me know if I should make the other side symmetrical or try something totally new!
This sweater is made from a blended yarn of alpaca, nylon and wool. The 100% wool, embroidery thread looks and feels very similar when it’s stitched into the sweater. I really love when I can use duplicate stitch because it’s a super easy way to create a stitch that looks seamless in knits, and it lets me freestyle a little bit to build up the mend in layers, like I did with this one!
