The idea is simple: Eat healthy meals 80% of the time, and have more freedom with the other 20%.  I also like to follow this approach in my general life. 80% smashing my goals, whether its going to the gym & smashing my workouts or showing up and meal prepping my food. The other 20% of the time - I reserve for my “fun”, relaxation or whatever I need to keep me happy and. grounded. Life is about balance. This is my version of it ❤️ Your version of balance may be different from mine! There is no right or wrong - what’s most important is that what you do on your day to day has you feeling happy, motivated & on track. Do this for you. Eat the foods you love. I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face - HOW you lift is way more important than how MUCH you lift. - Exercise execution is so important to ensure you’re actually moving the load with the muscle you’re intending to. Otherwise, you’re just going through the motions and could be missing out on the whole point of the exercise. - The video on the left shows my client Emily attempting the lat focused rope pullover for the first time. She told me she wasn’t getting great tension in her lats and mostly felt her delts during the movement which definitely is not what we’re looking for here. Thankfully, she recorded what she was doing so I could see exactly what was holding her back. - There were a few factors I saw contributing to what she felt: • The rope she’s using is a little too short, limiting her range of motion as her hands get closer to the body and turning it into more of a tricep pushdown almost. • She is also standing a little too upright, meaning she isn’t hinging at the hips quite enough to be in the most stable position for this movement. • She is pulling back with her hands more than driving her upper arm down - Come week two in the video on the right, there is a night and day difference and she said the lat tension was great - exactly what we’re looking for! What was we had her adjust: • She is now using a long rope instead of a short one so she can really drive that upper arm down effectively to shorten the lat. You can also use 2 short ropes if your gym doesn’t have longer options. • She’s also hinging at the hips more here so you can see her chest is angled more towards the floor which allows her to stay stable, stretch through the lat more and better keep tension in the lats throughout the exercise. • She is focusing on driving the upper arm down and keeping her elbow in the same position, keeping her triceps out of it - Reviewing client form videos is one of my absolute favorite parts of my job as a coach - helping clients develop a better understanding of different exercises, their own anatomy, and how to best set themselves up for movements are all skills that will ensure long term success and confidence in the gym.
