Reducing your toxic load is so important, especially in the most used room in the house. Here are 4 easy upgrades for a cleaner kitchen: Stainless steel milk frother. Most frothers have nonstick coats that sit directly in hot liquids. Stainless steel is more durable, easier to clean, and all-around safer — I just made this switch myself and I’m never going back! Glass tupperware. No staining, warping, or poor quality. It lasts longer, cleans better, and you’re not heating food in plastic. Stainless steel air fryer. Since air fryer ovens cook at high temps, it’s important you’re has a stainless steel interior instead of nonstick coatings which can leach into foods. Wooden cooking utensils. Gentle on cookware, naturally antibacterial, and no risk of melting plastic edges when you forget they’re resting on the pan (we’ve all done it). Micro plastics aren’t just a buzz word — it’s time to get them out of the kitchen. Not about perfection — just about making better choices where you can. Comment SWAP for a link to all my favorites. Here are some of my favourite adaptive kitchen hacks that make cooking easier when you’re dealing with fatigue, pain, or limited grip. And honestly, a lot of these are useful for anyone. These attach to utensils to make them easier to hold if you struggle with grip strength or painful finger joints. You can also flip them around and use the suction cup to help open drawers and cupboards. Next, an ergonomic knife. The L-shaped design means I can cut using my wrist rather than putting pressure through my fingers, which is much kinder on painful joints. This palm peeler is another favourite. It sits on your finger like a ring, so you don’t need to grip a handle tightly, which makes peeling vegetables much easier. One of my most-used kitchen tools is this one-cup kettle. It boils exactly the amount of water you need for a mug, which means you’re not lifting a full heavy kettle and it really reduces spills and scalds. It’s perfect for tea and coffee, but if you need boiling water for pasta or something bigger it does take longer because you have to do a few cycles. This wheelie stool is also really helpful. My wheelchair is quite bulky to manoeuvre in the kitchen and my knees hit the counters, so the stool is much smaller and lets me move around while staying seated. When my energy is low, pre-prepared frozen veg and microwave meals are absolute lifesavers. Adaptive cooking isn’t about doing everything from scratch, it’s about finding ways to make things manageable. This multi cutting tool is brilliant for slicing and dicing vegetables quickly without needing loads of strength or precision. And honestly, one of the most underrated hacks is having a cleaner. Getting help every couple of weeks keeps the kitchen functional and safe, and asking for help is just as valid as using any gadget. That includes frypans, rice cookers, sandwich presses and even milk frothing jugs. Occasional exposure is unlikely to be harmful, but there is no upside to continuing to use worn cookware.
