Almost every parent we work with says the same thing during the first consultation. “I had a feeling something was off a long time ago… and I waited.” Parents usually notice a struggle before anyone else does. Maybe reading feels harder than it should. Maybe math homework takes forever. Maybe your child is putting in a huge amount of effort but not seeing the results you’d expect. And often parents are told the same things. “Just wait.” “It’ll click.” “Give it more time.” Sometimes that advice works. Some kids do grow into the skills with time. But for many of the students we work with, more time doesn’t fix the issue. It simply allows the gap to widen. That’s why we always tell parents to trust their instincts. If something feels off, it’s worth taking a closer look. And the plan is actually simple. You do not need 6–8 hours of school at home. You do not need to recreate a classroom. You do not need to know everything in advance. You need to focus on what actually works: 📚 Phonics (this is the foundation of reading) 📝 1 hour reading / language arts ➕ 1 hour math That’s it. About 2 hours a day. If you stay consistent with just this— your child will learn to read, write, and build strong math skills. Not because you’re a certified teacher… but because you’re focused on the fundamentals. Most of us weren’t taught how to learn— we were taught what to memorize. So now, of course, it feels intimidating. But your child doesn’t need you to be perfect. They need you to be present, consistent, and intentional. And don’t underestimate this— a love for reading will take them further than almost anything else. Reading opens their world. It exposes them to new ideas, new perspectives, and endless knowledge. It builds comprehension, imagination, and confidence—at the same time. This is how you raise a strong learner. You don’t need to overcomplicate it. You don’t need permission. You just need to start. 2 hours a day. That’s enough. #homeschooling #homeschool #homeschoolmom #homeschool #parenting

Sometimes it’s not that a child isn’t trying… They just don’t fully understand what they’re being asked to do. So they keep practicing, keep getting the same results, and start to feel frustrated. That’s usually the moment I step in during STAAR prep. We slow down, figure out exactly what’s not clicking, and rebuild from there.
