IVEditing allows the photographer to be the artist, not the camera. The editing tools in Lightroom allowed me to make my vision come to life. If you’re hesitant to edit your work, this is your sign to do it.
Masking settings ↓
Mask 1: Select subject
- increase texture
- increase sharpness
Mask 2: Select background
- decrease exposure
- increase temperature
Mask 3: Linear gradient
- decrease exposure

This is the exact Lightroom and Photoshop masking process I used to refine this shot – from shaping light to guiding the eye and removing distractions.

Here’s how I approached it:
Mask 1 – Glow (Radial Filter with selective luminance on highlights)
- Slight bump in exposure
- Warmer temperature
- Reduced clarity and dehaze for a softer light falloff
Mask 2 – Subject (Object Select)
- Lifted exposure
- Added contrast
- Boosted texture to bring back detail
Mask 3 – Sky (Linear Gradient with subject removal)
- Warmed temperature
- Added contrast and saturation
- Increased clarity to define clouds and structure
Mask 4 – Subtle Vignette (Inverted Radial Filter)
- Lowered exposure to pull focus inward
Final step – Clean up distractions in Photoshop using the Spot Healing tool for a polished, professional finish.
