IMI’ve never seen this type of interaction in all my years of keeping aquariums. An ostracod and bladder snail interacting as if they were friends and not disturbance. They seem so friendly to each other it made me question even more how important and complex the microfauna can be in a natural setup.

SMWeek 1 of cycling my new Walstad aquarium 🌿
Driftwood tannins tinting the water. Microfauna are starting to show up.
I’m using ramshorn snails instead of fish to cycle the tank. They produce waste gently, help kickstart beneficial bacteria, and keep things low-stress. Light feeding every other day.
The potting mix already contains bacteria, helping to jumpstart the cycling process naturally.
Slow, natural, and peaceful 😌
