WHMILLWORK - pros & cons…
When we remodeled a Tudor Cottage in NJ we added plenty of millwork, trim, molding & here’s why;
• Pros - adds beauty & character, customizes the home, increase home value, protects walls, provides smooth transitions, seals gaps
• Cons - expensive, cracking
What & where we added;
1. Baseboard molding - where the floor meets the bottom of your wall (everywhere)
2. Crown molding - where the top of the wall meets the ceiling (everywhere)
3. Window & Door casing molding - used to frame your windows/doors (everywhere)
4. Wainscoting - any decorative paneling used on a wall (entry/powder room)
5. Beadboard (type of Wainscoting) - vertical boards that are capped off by a strip of horizontal molding (kids bedroom)
6. Coffered ceiling - a series of sunken panels that are typically in the shape of a square (dining room)
7. Shiplap - vertical boards that fit together in a way so that each board overlaps the one below it (primary bedroom ceiling)
