DE📍 Working with the most miniature of mediums, artist @tanaka_tatsuya (Tatsuya Tanaka) creates tiny scenes that embrace the unexpected. Rooted in the Japanese concept of “mitate” — the reimagining of familiar objects into something entirely new — his work infuses a bit of surrealism into everyday scenery, from morning routines to Olympic events. “Simply put, it’s about transforming something everyone knows into something else everyone also knows,” says Tanaka.
Since his launch of “Miniature Calendar” in 2011, Tanaka has been creating and sharing a new sculpture on his feed every day. “Ideas come faster than my hands can keep up,” he shares. “And it seems like I won’t be able to bring all my ideas to life, even if I spend my entire lifetime on them.” 🧑🤝🧑
