Historic castles in Scotland refused filming once they saw the silly script. The crew reused the same castle multiple times and just shot it from different angles to pretend it was new locations. Most outdoor scenes were filmed in freezing Scottish weather. You can actually see actors shivering under medieval costumes. Parts of the movie were financed by members of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Genesis — because they were fans of Monty Python! They literally ran out of money.
