This insane wind gust was measured about 700 feet above the ocean's surface. This thing is absolutely terrifying. Melissa is now a Cat 5 Hurricane with Winds of 180 mph. and Gust up to 241 mph. Melissa is now one of the most powerful October storms ever recorded in the Atlantic. Current pressure down to 903 mb. A catastrophic landfall in western Jamaica is expected overnight and into Tuesday morning. Melissa is Forecast to make landfall in Jamaica 🇯🇲 Catastrophic devastation is expected in Jamaica. Truly a devastating situation setting up for Jamaica. With a central pressure of 903 mb, it is nearly the same strength as Hurricane Katrina (902 mb) at its strongest. Catastrophic flash flooding and numerous landslides are expected through Tuesday in Jamaica. The eyewall's destructive winds may cause total structural failure, particularly in higher elevations, leading to widespread infrastructural damage, prolonged power and communication outages, and isolated communities. Along the southern coast, life-threatening storm surge and damaging waves are anticipated through Tuesday. Catastrophic flash flooding and landslides are also expected across southwestern Haiti and southern portions of the Dominican Republic through midweek.
