THThe King has spoken of the deepening co-operation between the UK and France that will protect against “profound challenges” such as terrorism, organised crime and “irregular migration” across the English Channel.
In a speech marking President Emmanuel Macron’s three-day state visit to the UK, Charles highlighted a summit between Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and the French leader when commentators expect the issue of small boats to be top of the agenda.
The King also spoke of the growing environmental threat where the “very future of our planet hangs in the balance” and the UK and France have a “critical role to play”.

THThe WHO Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing (PABS) System is to become the largest multilateral mechanism of the kind to date, covering biological materials and genetic sequence data. They are key to pharmaceutical research and development. Its value lies in its scale, but also predictability and enforceability.
Without clear, standardised contracts, legal certainty is reduced and the multilateral character of the system is weakened, opening the gateway for biopiracy. Yet, that is what the EU, Norway, Germany and allies are fighting for at the WHO negotiating table.
Sangeeta Shashikant, Coordinator of TWN’s Development and Intellectual Property Programme, warns that under such terms, we are creating an extractive system. She has followed a similar mechanism inception, the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework. Based on contractual agreement, over 14 years, PIP has generated at least US$349 million in monetary contributions, alongside non-monetary benefits, like 10 million antiviral treatment courses, 250,000 diagnostic kits and 25 million syringes for pandemic response.

AIEric Schmidt has recently stated that intelligence is on the verge of decoupling from humanity.
According to him, computers have begun engaging in self-improvement, meaning they no longer need to rely on human input or direction.
He predicts that within six years, we could witness the emergence of a form of intelligence that surpasses the collective cognitive capacity of all humans.
This marks a transformative shift with implications so profound that, as Schmidt puts it, we currently lack the language to fully describe what is coming.

SAGoogle DeepMind just published a 42-page paper called Intelligent AI Delegation and it’s the most honest thing I’ve read about the state of AI this year.
The paper breaks down two fundamental problems. First, AI is not self-adaptive. It doesn’t learn from its mistakes in real time and it can’t recover when things go wrong. Second, and more importantly, AI is not trustworthy. It’s not reliable and we currently don’t have a good solution for that.
When you combine multiple AI agents together, which is what every company is trying to do right now, those two problems multiply. You get unreliable systems delegating to other unreliable systems with zero accountability and no way to trace what went wrong.
Google’s proposed solution is to treat AI delegation the way you would treat delegation in a real company, with contracts, verification systems, trust scores, strict permissions, and mandatory human approval for high-stakes actions. Essentially all the infrastructure you need when you can’t trust the employee doing the work.
The takeaway is simple. Next time someone tells you AI is about to replace your job, send them this paper. The people actually building the systems just told you how far we are from that reality.

HIBillions for Intelligence - The U.S. government is heavily funding AI for intelligence and surveillance, with reports of nearly $1 billion in AI surveillance deals with firms like Palantir since January 2025.
Big tech firms are investing massive sums, with companies like OpenAI making $1 trillion in deals in 2025 alone, much of which builds surveillance capacity.
China’s AI investment is massive and growing, with total spending projected to hit around $98-$125 billion in 2025, driven by significant government funds (like an $8.2B national fund for early stage AI), major tech giants (Alibaba, Tencent increasing investments), and corporate R&D, focusing heavily on data centers, infrastructure, and domestic chip development to achieve self-sufficiency against U.S. restrictions and sanctions. China’s strategy heavily invests in data centers and energy infrastructure, distinct from the U.S. focus on hardware.
