If your toothbrush looks a bit… munted 👀 it’s a pretty clear sign you’re brushing harder than you should be.
Brushing harder doesn’t necessarily make your teeth cleaner. Plaque is soft, and doesnt need much pressure to clean it off.
As we get older, years of hard brushing can lead to wearing down of the gums and cause sensitivity along the gumline.
It’s much better to brush gently for a longer time, than to brush aggressively for a short time.
When I worked as an oral health therapist, we used to tell people who brushed too hard to try holding their toothbrush like a pencil rather than with their fist.
Does it feel weird? Absolutely.
Does it work? Also yes.
