This pup is in the tub, muzzled, and letting me know he’s uncomfortable before his nail trim. And instead of forcing him through it, I listen first.
🐶 Let’s talk about what’s really happening:
• Nail trims can be one of the most stressful parts of grooming
• Dogs remember bad past experiences
• Being restrained + unfamiliar sounds = fear response
• Growling is a warning—not bad behavior
🚫 What most people get wrong:
Punishing a growl doesn’t fix the problem… it removes the warning. And that’s when bites happen.
👑 My approach as a professional:
✔ Muzzle for safety—not punishment
✔ Calm energy, slow movements
✔ Reading body language before every step
✔ Taking breaks when needed
✔ Building trust over time—not rushing the process
💡 Important:
A dog that growls is actually doing the RIGHT thing—it’s telling us how it feels.
🐾 Groomer Reality:
Every dog isn’t going to walk in happy for a spa day. Some need patience, structure, and someone who understands behavior—not just grooming. That’s what separates a groomer… from a professional.
