How to use xe/xem pronouns ⬇️ These are neopronouns — aka new pronouns — that people of any gender can use in order to express their identities and be referred to with affirming and validating language. When talking about someone with these pronouns, you’d use them in a very similar way as with he/him, she/her, or they/them pronouns — just with the “X” prefix (usually pronounced like “z”) & some other slight changes! Let’s practice with an example — If I were talking about someone who uses xe/xem pronouns, I might say… “Xe is so fun to hang out with. I only met xem recently, but xyr energy is radiant, and I know xe’s going to be a great friend.” Whereas, if I were referring to someone who uses he/him pronouns, the sentence would read — “He is so fun to hang out with. I only met him recently, but his energy is radiant, and I know he’s going to be a great friend.” There are also multiple spellings of xe/xem pronouns — specifically in the possessive forms (xyr, vs. another common spelling, xir) — as well as multiple potential pronunciations of these words! As with all pronouns and identities, everyone gets to choose whatever spellings and pronunciations feel most affirming to them. And all options are equally valid! 🥰🌈 Below is a rundown of some of the various grammatical forms and uses of xe/xem pronouns — ❤️ Subjective form 👉🏻 Xe ✨ eg. “Xe is awesome” 🧡 Objective form 👉🏻 Xem ✨ eg. “I gave my book to xem” 💛 Possessive adjective form 👉🏻 Xyr (also commonly spelled xir) ✨ eg. “That’s xyr opinion” 💚 Possessive pronoun form 👉🏻 / Xyrs (also commonly spelled xirs) ✨ eg. “That book is xyrs” 💙 Reflexive form 👉🏻 Xemself ✨ eg. “Xe taught xemself how to play the piano” It can definitely take time to adjust to using these new pronouns, but I guarantee that with a little practice, you’ll have it down in no time 🥰🌈 💬 Do you have any questions about xe/xem pronouns — or neopronouns in general? 💬 ✨ #zoestoller #neopronouns #pride
