DIIt was love at first sight when I saw Oxalis Triangularis at my mom’s house. I brought home a tiny 4" pot from the nursery, and for 8 months, she was the star of our home—deep purple leaves dancing in the afternoon light, looking perfect in her little celadon planter 🔆
Then suddenly… she wasn’t happy anymore. Her stems got leggy, and the leaves started to die back. A bit of research calmed me down: Oxalis goes dormant in winter.
So I stopped watering, let her rest in a dark cabinet for 3 months, and waited. At the first sign of spring, I brought the corms out and repotted them in my go-to mix:� ½ soil + ¼ perlite + ¼ worm castings.
By week 4, tiny shoots appeared. Now in week 12, she’s back—full, vibrant, and glowing in our yellow window. 💜

BEIn zones 7 and lower, Oxalis Trangularis is not a perennial, meaning it cannot withstand the winter temperatures in these zones therefore they need to be either brought indoors or need to go in complete dormancy during winter.
Earlier, I used to bring the plant indoors but it would look very dull all winter long so i decided to cut it off and leave the pot full of corms in my unheated garage. And to my surprise, It did exceptionally well next summer.
The winter dormancy actually helps the plant for a greater comeback during the warmer months. So if you live in zones 7 and lower do give this a try!!

keep your Purple Shamrock plant healthy, grow in rich, well-drained potting mix and water when the top inch of soil becomes dry. Maintain moderate humidity, fertilize every two to three weeks, situate in bright light and keep indoor temperature between 60°F to 75°F.

EN¿Eres de cortar o de esperar?
Ya sabéis que la oxalis triangularis es una de las reinas de mi casa. No hago gran cosa con ella y un día de estos le tengo que cobrar alquiler 😂
En julio me lleve un buen disgusto porque se bajó de la vida y por más que intenté, no se recuperaba. El calor es lo que tiene y pocas veces podemos hacer algo por ellas.
Pero hay plantas (la mayoría de hecho) que son como el ave fénix. Cuando están débiles corto a ras y cuido con normalidad (ojo, es normal que pidan menos riego cuando están rapadas). En unas semanas ya ves, sin hacer nada especial vuelve a estar divina!
Salvo que todas las raíces estén podridas (que entonces es más difícil) este método me funciona siempre de 10 ❤️

UKHow to Grow Oxalis Triangularis indoors!
•
☀️ Provide a bright location with an hour of either morning or evening sunlight throughout the year. Settings that boast overhead lighting are at an advantage for better rates of growth (windowsills, grow lights, conservatories, etc.).
💦 Water once the top third of the soil dries out, reducing this further in the autumn and winter months. Prevent droughts of any length throughout the growing periods.
☁️ Provide a humid location by introducing a humidity/pebble tray to keep the surrounding moisture high during the winter (third image below).
🧴Fertilise using a ‘Houseplant’ labelled feed every third waters in the spring and summer, reducing this to every fourth in period of late autumn to late winter.
🪰 Regularly check for pests, most notably Spider Mites that’ll locate themselves under the leaves.
🌺 Provide a resting period over the autumn and winter months by reducing the amount of watering and temperature. Successful dormancy periods will reward you with lush new growth in the spring, that’ll carry on until mid autumn.
✂️ The Oxalis triangularis is a prolific bloomer; prune off the flower spikes before they open to preserve energy for leaf production instead if you’re not fussy about its flowers

_POxalis Triangularis, you’re a fun one! Care tips ⬇️:
✂️ chopping: lack of light and change environmental can result in a leggy plant. If you want it to grow more uniform then yes, chopping is the way but if you don’t mind the look, keep it as is.
💦 Water: Let dry out halfway. I personally choose to grow mine in a self watering pot to help me keep it damp. I tend to be an underwaterer and will forget to water her. Comment “staydamp” and an automation will be sent to you DM’s with the link to my favorite self watering pots.
Although it doesn’t like to dry out, having it sit too wet will cause rot. I still ensure it has a well draining mix. Soil mix used: a combo of indoor potting soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco chips.
💡Light: the brightest window I can give it or under a grow light has been how I’ve kept it this full also )about 500 FC is measuring with a light meter).
