Excellent first plotter - accurate and trouble free #idrawHSE #penplotterreview from @MXLTHS I purchased this plotter to explore algorithmic art and I have found it to a workhorse machine so far. Although I was already familiar with CNC devices like 3D printers and CNC routers before purchasing this plotter, I don't think the minimal setup would present an issue for beginners, learning Inkscape itself is more of a challenge :) I purchased the iDraw H SE A3 model and am referring to it for all comments below.

I like my maschine #review about #idraw H A3 #penplotter from Flemming Jensen This is my second pen plotter I have bought from Uuna Tek. In both cases I have been very satisfied with my purchase and quickly started using it after receiving it: - The machine is shipped in good packaging - The machine is easy to assemble and all parts are labeled so it is difficult to do it wrong - There are some instructions on Uuna Tek's website that explain how to install the software and the extensions you need for the machine to make the first drawing In everyday use there are no problems with using the machine and it is both fast and quiet. However, there are also some things that you will miss after using the machine for a while. - Better cable management in softer material than the rigid plastic that is used today. I have tried to optimize the cable routing myself but it is very difficult without also changing the cables to longer ones - It would be nice if there was an option to run the machine without a connected computer, while e.g. with a Raspberry Pi connected and maybe a small touch screen, I know there are solutions on the internet but they are not good unless you have a little technical skills. It must be possible to make something relatively cheap in the same way as it has been done with 3D printers. It could also be fun if such a box allowed for connecting a camera. - Another thing I miss is a plugin for the software that makes it possible to plot with brushes and watercolors. I know it exists for Uuna Tek's competitors but I can't find it for Idraw. But all in all I am very satisfied with my purchase

As soon as you plug it in, it's ready to make your graphic dreams come true. The assembly screws do require periodic checking, as they tend to loosen in some places due to vibrations, but this only takes a few seconds and doesn't interrupt the satisfying and mesmerizing user experience. It's very versatile and can do many things; the only limit is the artist using it. Shipping arrives very quickly, and our staff will be happy to assist you with everything.

I haven't posted any pen plotter stuff here but getting back to using it more after picking up some fountain pens, and ink from @birminghampens last week. Been doing some testing this week and having a great time. The iDraw 2.0 pen plotter was one of the main things that got me making the art I post here back in 2024. Running it from Inkscape, and using Axidraw extensions to do hatch fills is incredibly tedious. I've been making some updates to one of my main applications to convert fills to strokes, to save a ton of time doing it in Inkscape. It's rather basic and certainly not rocket science, but I'm able to save a ton of time exporting svgs, bringing them into Inkscape, and starting the plot pretty quickly. As opposed to giclee prints, there are limitations in terms of colors available, whether ink, pens, markers, etc. but I enjoy working within those limits. Looking forward to evolving some of the digital images I've posted into into plotted images, as well as looking into how I can incorporate collage style images into this and plotting into them and paper.

Nice plotter is a solid and accessible tool for creative experimentation. My experience using it for generative art, handwriting-style drawings, and custom illustrations has been very positive. The setup with SVG files is straightforward, the machine produces clean, consistent lines. It fits well into a simple digital-to-physical creative workflow.
