My positive birth experience- C section Choosing a C-section wasn’t fear ,it was clarity. It was trusting my body, my baby and the amazing medical team guiding us safely to each other. Walking into the OR, I felt anxious and scared - obviously! You know what’s going to happen to you so feeling that is reasonable! But I knew that everything is going to turn out great. And then I heard that first cry 🥹 the sound that instantly made everything else fade away. Just overwhelming gratitude and love and a zillion more emotions at the same time… To every mama who had a C-section, you didn’t miss out on birth, you owned your birth. Strength isn’t measured by how a baby arrives, it’s measured by the courage to make the best decision for you and your baby. The first time getting up after your C-section can feel like climbing mt Everest. Seriously. It’s hard af. With that said, this has been the BEST recovery. If you want to heal after your C-section, stop leaking and get rid of the C-section shelf, comment STRONGER I feel the strongest and most able that I ever have after a C-section. With my first, it was an emergency so I was recovering from labor and emergency surgery and all the mind fvcks that come with it. The second C-section was planned but I literally wasn’t standing or walking alone at home for some time. This C-section, I was walking, getting out of bed, peeing alone like at 12 hours. It’s incredible. I think because I was vegan for the first two pregnancies, I am just all around stronger this time. More muscle, more intentional training throughout the pregnancy, and my nutrition this time pre/postnatally has been way better. I am still so sore, but I am just blown away after how different this recovery has been and we are only 48hrs in. @explorerssaurus_ Things No One Really Tells You About getting a C-section (planned or unplanned): 1. Even with a planned C-section, labour might still start naturally. Contractions, water breaking, or early signs can still happen - and that might change the timeline fast. So make sure you have your maternity bag packed in advance!! 2. You feel more than you expect - just not pain. You'll feel pressure, tugging, and movement during the surgery. It's intense but normal - you're aware, just numb. 3. The operating room is not exactly cozy. It's cold, brightly lit, and full of people. If you imagined a peaceful, candle-lit birth….. this isn't it. 4. The spinal block works fast - and can cause shaking or nausea. They insert a 8cm long needle into your spine (this part for me wasn't painful), but I felt my body tremble and wanted to throw up 🤮 5. You'll be catheterized because bladder control goes out the window. You'll spend the day peeing into a bag without realizing it. The catheter removal? Not painful - just weird 6. Your partner only comes into the OR after the epidural is done. Those few minutes alone can feel like hours. You're overwhelmed, scared, and just trying to breathe until he finally comes in. fo 7. You might not hear your baby cry right away. And that can be terrifying — but it's not always a sign that something is wrong. Our baby needed suctioning and stimulation before letting out that first cry. It felt like forever but he was okay d 8. Skin-to-skin might not happen immediately. Depending on how you and baby are doing, it may take a little while before that first hold os 9. The first day is rough. You'll have a catheter, numb legs, and a fresh scar you haven't seen yet. You can't move, can't pee on your own — but you're expected to bond, breastfeed, and "enjoy the moment." Go 10. It's still birth. Still brave. Still sacred. Even if you didn't push. Even if it wasn't what you imagined. You were cut open so your baby could live. There is nothing more powerful than that. Would you add something to the list? But you’re really strong for coping up! 💪🏻 This is the thing you need to hear when recovering, Your feelings are valid. Your birth was valid!🙌 You’re not just dealing with physical pain, you’re also dealing with an emotional turmoil. For me C-section = COURAGE section!
