Link in Bio 🚨Story time: I had a coach overseas who was a hall of fame point guard. He would teach little pg 💎 after practice. After one particular game where I got trapped and rushed a few times he pulled me aside the next day in practice. He explained this powerful truth: SLOW IS FAST. Since then I’ve also learned the Navy Seals have a similar mantra: Slow is Smooth & Smooth is Fast. This coach explained how the best point guards play slow, poised, under control. Their movements are smooth & they don’t waste dribbles or movements even when under pressure. So the goal shouldn’t be to play fast but rather slow to be smooth. Over the years this has only become more valuable as I work with young players who seem to always be in a hurry, rushed by defenses & making poor decisions out of this. My goal is to teach you to play slow not fast, play smooth not rushed. 🏀🧪 #pointguard #basketball #pace

THE BIGGEST LIE TOLD IN YOUTH BASKETBALL 🚨 “YOUR CHILD IS TALL SO HE/SHE SHOULD PLAY CENTER” 😭😭☹️☹️ This happened to me as a kid playing youth basketball and I want to raise awareness ! FACTS ⬇️ Average Height (men): 5ft 9in Average Height NBA (men): 6ft 6in As a kid I was considered “tall” around 5ft 7in in middle school for my age so I was always playing the forward/center position. Because I was taller than most kids I developed into a good rebounder/post player/mid-range jump shooter. I focused on these particular things because it made sense for my position/height. Once high school came around…I hadn’t grown much and stood around 5ft 8in! I was now considered short compared to other kids my age. I’ll never forget the day I was trying out for my HS team and they had me playing the point guard position 😢 I was SCARED, as I had basically no experience playing the position and never dribbled so much in a game (it was exhausting lol) ! My whole youth basketball career I was chained to the forward/center position but looking around I quickly realized that those guys would knock me around like a rag doll down low in the paint and I had to figure out playing PG on the fly (at a tryout). The tryout wasn’t fun to say the least. I do not recommend following my path! Let’s learn from what happened to me and normalize positionless basketball at the youth level! MOST KIDS WILL NOT BE TALL ENOUGH TO PLAY FORWARD OR CENTER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL OR BEYOND! THEY WILL LIKELY HAVE TO PLAY GUARD! If your child is always stuck playing center or forward…TALK to their coach about your valid concerns for their long term growth Ask if they can get some practice playing ALL positions even if it’s just during their practices. This will give them some experience at the position and set them up for success if they decide to play at the next level. What do you think ?
