AUDid you know? A tomato begins as a flower. Once pollination happens, the petals fall away and the ovary starts to swell, slowly transforming into the fruit. What looks simple from the outside is actually a precise biological shift from reproduction to growth.
As the tomato develops, the plant sends sugars, water, and nutrients into the fruit, building its size from the inside. Green is the first stage, when chlorophyll still dominates. Then, as it ripens, pigments like lycopene take over, turning the tomato red while texture, aroma, and sweetness intensify.
So a ripening tomato is not just “growing”—it is changing purpose. What starts as a flower becomes a nutrient-rich signal designed to be seen, eaten, and dispersed. Growth, color, and attraction all become part of the same strategy.
