My pollinator garden doesn’t start in spring.�It starts now. January is when I look back at the moments that stopped me in my tracks — bees heavy with pollen, butterflies lingering a little longer, the quiet hum that tells me the garden is doing more than just looking pretty. Those moments shape what I plan next. I don’t choose plants just for color or bloom time. I choose them for who they invite in, who they support, and how they fit into the bigger rhythm of the garden. Winter might look still, but it’s full of intention. Sound on! 🐝🔈 Did you know that static electricity actually attracts pollen to bees? When a bee flies, the air friction rubs off electrons giving them a positive charge. Flowers are negatively charged, so when in close proximity, static electricity causes the pollen to attract and stick to the bee. Once foraged, the flower’s electrical field temporarily changes – this helps to redirect other bees to forage from different pollen sources. Save this for the full plant list 🌸👇 ⁣ ⁣ This mostly native pollinator garden (Zone 6 Michigan) has been showing off this summer, and it’s hard to believe that I planted it less than a year ago 🤯⁣ ⁣ Even though it’s super low maintenance, it still needed some work, so I picked up a bag of @espomaorganic fruit tree tone to feed the cherry and peach trees #EspomaPartner ideally you can feed the trees every 2-4 weeks in the peak growing season, and this tone is designed to promote flowering and fruiting 🍑⁣ ⁣ The best part about this garden is that it has THREE SEASON interest. SAVE for Full Plant List 👇⁣ ⁣ The perennial border is a staple in British landscape design, and I planted a native and pollinator version around my raised bed garden. ⁣ ⁣ Why did I do this so close to my veggies? 🧐⁣ ⁣ Because the more pollinator action you have, the higher yields you will get. If I’m already attracting the bees, beetles and butterflies to the flowers they love the most, there’s a good chance they’ll pop over to pollinate the adjacent tomatoes, cucumbers and squash. ⁣ ⁣ More pollinators = more harvest 🐝🍅 ⁣ I also cut logs with my @craftsman chainsaw to create a boundary and provide habitat for the insects. I immediately crouched down between the beds so I wouldn’t scare them and spent a delightful 10 minutes watching them enjoy the nasturtiums.
