A PIP should stand for Paid Interview Period instead of Performance Improvement plan. I hate to say it, but even if an employee should be on a PIP, many managers don’t have the skills, time, or desire to go through this process. 👀 Watch out- if you were blindsided by a below average performance rating. Consider that a PIP in disguise. Take this as a sign to brush up your resume and start looking. 👉🏻 Share with someone on a PIP or having frequent performance discussions with their manager. Hopefully this will help. 🔐Truthfully, although rare, I know employees that have not only recovered from a PIP but wound up having great careers in the same company. The common element is that they had good managers, and the employees were self-aware and open to feedback. So there is hope—-you have a shot at turning it around if all, or most, of the following are present 🚀A PIP that clearly states the problem and has several examples to illustrate the point. 🚀You had a transparent two-way conversation to discuss the PIP 🚀You were given a reasonable time frame to improve based on the issue (including clarity on how to get off the PIP) 🚀Time for both parties to reflect after the feedback. 🚀You were given a method and cadence for follow up.
