The Antaresia genus consists of four species! The Children’s python (Antaresia childreni), the Stimson’s python (Antaresia stimsoni), the spotted python (Antaresia maculosa), and the pygmy python (Antaresia perthensis)! . All of these snake species are in my opinion some of the best pet reptiles for reptile keepers of all levels! Especially for beginners! . SIZE: Antaresia species rarely exceed 1.5 meters, with spotted pythons being the largest, and pygmy pythons being the smallest. Did you know that pygmy pythons are actually the worlds smallest python?? The small size of these species makes them easy to house and handle! An adult Antaresia can be housed in a minimum of 60cm L x 45cm W x 45cm H enclosure! . TEMPERAMENT: Antaresia species usually have pretty good temperaments! While hatchlings can be flighty and nippy, they usually grow out of this and it’s nothing constant handling can’t fix! Sometimes adult Antaresia can be a bit food motivated and mistake your hand for food, this can be easily avoided by simply ceasing handling on feeding day, and by using a snake hook to get the snake out of its enclosure! . AVAILABILITY: Antaresia species are quite readily available in the reptile market in Australia! Breeders such as myself (Jurassic Wildlife), Snake Sanctum, Cold Blooded Creatures, Mighty Morphin Aussie Reptile and more, sell Antaresia species and a variety of morphs! Antaresia species are also relatively cheep, although it does depend on the morph…Wild type morphs sell for around $200! . . . . . . . . . . #jurassicwildlife #petsnake #herpetology #antaresia

Celebrating 200 Years of #Iguanodon—A Paleontological Milestone In 1825, Gideon #Mantell formally described Iguanodon, marking one of the earliest scientific identifications of a #dinosaur. The genus name meaning “Iguana-tooth” was inspired by the fossilised teeth resemblance to the dentition of modern iguanas—an extraordinary observation that heralded a new era in our understanding of #prehistoric life. It was among the first #dinosaurs recognised by science, laying the foundation for more in-depth research on dinosaur anatomy, #evolution & ecology. Mantell’s careful observations of tooth structure helped crystallise the notion that giant reptiles once roamed ancient landscapes. It lived during the Early #Cretaceous (~125 mya) & possessed a beak-like snout for cropping vegetation & robust, leaf-shaped teeth with complex ridges to facilitate chewing tough plants. These adaptations highlight its role in ancient ecosystems as a major plant-eater. Jaw Section: Exhibiting teeth in situ, this specimen demonstrates how teeth were replaced throughout the animals lifetime. The presence of multiple tooth rows & replacements underscores the dinosaurs continuous need to process fibrous plant material. Fully Rooted Tooth: From crown to root, providing insight into how deeply these teeth were anchored in the jaw. Its elongated root helped support the tooth against the stresses of repetitive chewing. Tooth Crown with Intricate Ridge Detail: Even a single crown reveals its evolutionary sophistication. The pronounced ridges & serrated edges improved grinding efficiency, reflecting an advanced adaptation for a specialised herbivorous diet. The discovery of Iguanodon revolutionised 19th-century science by prompting naturalists to question prevailing notions about the history of life on Earth. Mantell’s meticulous study of these ancient teeth essentially charted a course for the field of #paleontology, inspiring generations of #fossil hunters, researchers & dinosaur enthusiasts. As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the naming, these fossils remain a powerful reminder of the deep connections between #geology, biology & our planet's history. #naturalhistory

Python 🐍 hunt bird while crocodile 🐊 made a surprise attack 🤯. Python is a genus of constricting snakes in the Pythonidae family native to the tropics and subtropics of the Eastern Hemisphere. The name python was proposed by François Marie Daudin in 1803 for non-venomous flecked snakes. Currently, 10 python species are recognized as valid taxa.

Dinocrocuta is an extinct genus of prehistoric hyena. It lived in Asia and Africa during the Miocene epoch. The largest species, D. gigantea, is known to have reached head-to-body length of 1.9 m (6.2 ft) for the largest individuals, with total skull lengths of 43 cm (17 in). In terms of weight, it was originally stated to have weighed up to 380 kg (840 lb). They had incredibly powerful jaws strong enough to crush bones. Dinocrocuta is estimated to have gone extinct roughly around 30,000 years ago.
