This book has confirmed for me that I will always be open to reading Blake Crouch. What a fascinating and complex mind to create such beautifully intricate stories with all of the details so clearly thought through.
At first glance, I might have thought this may not be the book for me. Things like time travel, physics, logic/strategy/philosophy and the impact of those things don’t immediately pull me in on their own. It’s the fact that I know there will be a person-driven component alongside this narrative that is mind-bending, thrilling, emotional, and difficult to set down. The fact that this book had me on the edge of my seat is impressive in itself, because that barely happens for me when watching films with that intention, let alone a book i’m reading. This book does so well with the balance of person-focus, situation-focus, and maintaining the overall storyline (which I find challenging to do at baseline, let alone when memory and time travel is involved).
All in all, if you’re looking for a mind-bending, thoughtful, question reality, confront humanity, book that will have you questioning the whole spectrum of life and all its dilemmas… this one may be for you 🙃

Listen, I interned at a literary agency for over a year…
And the NUMBER ONE reason we rejected manuscripts WITHOUT reading them was this:👇🏼
The word count was too high.
100k words is a pretty hard cap—especially for debut authors. 😅
Even if you write sci-fi or fantasy, there’s only a little extra wiggle room typically (~10k-20k).
This word count cap exists because more words = more money to print—and literary agents want to make sure they can sell your book first before letting you have free rein with word count. 📔
So if your novel is too long, consider breaking into multiple books—and pitching your first book as a “standalone with series potential.” ✍🏼
