This vintage cabinet was ready for a makeover! After stripping away all the green… I was left with the ugliest wood. That meant, I had to paint it back and I chose GREEN again 😂 Why do I do this to myself!
At least all the hard work paid off because this green cabinet got a glow up!

ANThe only time I use my sprayer is if I’m painting a whole piece from top to bottom, otherwise I just use a roller. I find that spraying uses WAY more paint, and having to cover everything I’m not painting, set up my tent, move everything, is an absolute pain for me. I also just enjoy painting by hand.
Here is what I do ⬇️⬇️⬇️
REMOVE ALL FINISH: Unless I have something that is MDF or laminate, I remove it all! I have had adhesion problems, in the past, from just scuff sanding prior finishes and sometimes you can see existing finishes through the new one. I also like working on a blank canvas!
FIX MISSING WOOD/FILL HOLES: There is nothing worse than seeing a chunk of missing veneer or wood under a new paint finish. I also add new hardware holes and make sure my hardware is even and fits! You don’t want to drill something wrong after you finish painting 😅
PRIMER: My go to is Zinsser 1•2•3. I do at least two coats and sand each coat with 400-600 grit. I double check for any repairs that need to be made and camouflage any that I have made, if I’m leaving the grain showing. SCRATCH TEST when dry!
PAINT: My go to is Behr dynasty. I use a 3/4” nap micro fiber roller and Zibra paint brushes. I do thin my paint out just a tad, with distilled water and do 2-3 thin coats. In between coats I sand with 400-600 grit but I do not sand the last coat. SCRATCH TEST first coat, when dry!
TOP COAT: Behr Dynasty doesn’t need a top coat necessarily but I do like to add one for extra protection. I use Behr water based polyurethane and add enough paint to tint it. This helps avoid streaks, especially in dark colors. I sand very lightly with 1000 grit, in between coats. On the last coat, if necessary, I’ll LIGHTLY go over it with 2000 grit or a paper bag but if it feels smooth then I’ll leave it alone.

THA normal piece takes me 2-3 days to complete, this one took me a week and a half 😫
The bleaching and whitewashing didn’t completely remove the sun spots but made them barely noticeable!
