Flipped the softener into bypass — pressure instantly came back. The filtration system was completely restricted and choking the house. This is the difference between guessing… and diagnosing. Two houses on the same block. Two very similar problems. While working on a repipe at one home, we were also completing a sewer replacement just a few houses down. Both properties had aging cast iron installed in the 1950s and Orangeburg sewer piping installed decades ago. In both homes, these materials had reached the end of their lifespan. The cast iron was failing inside the walls, and the Orangeburg sewer lines outside were collapsing. When multiple homes on the same block were built during the same era, they often share the same hidden plumbing risks. If your home was built mid century and you are dealing with leaks, backups, or unexplained moisture, it may be time for a professional sewer inspection.
