DIIt be like that sometimes ...
While I wanted some @silverringsplint for the hypermobility problems that are causing havoc in my hands, two OTs measured me and scarily had two very different measurements. I just didn't feel comfortable ordering something so expensive out of pocket to have it not be correct and have to add a whole other frustrating situation to my life.
I looked into other options, so many of which would cost the same as silver ring splints or are wire wrapped.
Fun fact about me, before my hands got really bad I spent so much time wire wrapping rings, necklaces, and sun catchers. It's a hobby I miss a lot.
I have all the tools so I decided to give it a whirl and this thankfully took me less than 20 minutes to figure out.
I guess I'll be ordering some stronger materials than this copper and whipping up my own finger splints. Here's hoping they help. If so, down the road I will find someone confident with the silver ring splint measuring system and upgrade.

THthis is a joke, with as much respect as I can muster (for those who make assumptions on things taken out of context without adequate understanding to begin with).
my OT didn’t splint my hands for this specific gesture, if it wasnt obvious already.
on a serious note- stop telling strangers their diagnosis/treatment plan is “normal”, it really isnt your place to comment on that at all. respectful questions and lighthearted jokes are one thing but dismissing my experience, personal attacks, and harassing me after I have turned off comments are truly vile choices.

I got my silver ring splints in high school, so they were originally configured to assist my handwriting and archery. Now that I make jewelry for a living, the support is a bit lacking, but still makes a world of difference!
I’ve tried supplementing with plastic oval-8 splints, but my fingers are mostly too small. 😅

PALet's talk about ring splints! 💍
First and foremost: Not everyone who presents with hypermobility is symptomatic, and this specific abnormality is not terribly uncommon. But for many individuals with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder, collagen is much weaker in the body, thus making negative symptoms more likely to occur. Connective tissues often need extra support when they are faulty, and that's where assistive devices come into play.
As someone with EDS myself, my ring splints are an absolute lifesaver. Your hands are how you interact with the world, and so preserving my function became a priority. I wear these rings by @splintsbyevabelle on a regular basis, and I no longer suffer from debilitating hand pain. I highly recommend this shop specifically, as their rings are high quality, and you buy them once for life.

MSThis is how I make a simple wire wrapped ring splint. 14gg wire is a must - 16gg is too thin to support with just one wrap and personally 12gg felt awkwardly large but it could be ok.
If you have wrist pain, stop knitting and see a Dr. Ring splints are just one part of how I prevent wrist pain due to quirks of my own anatomy.
