Just months after his passing, the game honored more than a legend, it honored a life of purpose. In a rare decision, the five-year waiting period was waived, and Clemente was elected with 92.7% of the vote.
But this wasn’t just about 3,000 hits or 15 All-Star selections.

Later that year, his wife, Vera Clemente, accepted his plaque, calling it “Roberto’s last triumph.”
