🔥Sand Casting Tips listed below!🔥 This is probably the most important step. You need a 1/8th drill bit for the sprue. It’s the perfect size and the drill bit can trap sand as it goes down instead of it pouring out the sides into your mold I use a thing round file to make the vents. It’s fits perfectly in the vent channels provided by Craig daiblers casting flask. This is not required but I think it’s a great tool for evenly pressing down the mold. It’s just a piece of flat steel.  Talc poweder so your mold doesn’t stick to the sand. You can also use corn starch I use a metal shaping hammer to pound the sand. It’s the perfect size for the flask You want to pack the sand as hard as you can. This will ensure you get as much detail from your mold as possible  I leave the mold in the flask while making the vents. It ensures no sand grains get into my mold.  Here I’m inserting the file into the vents channels I already made to gently lift my mold out  Here you see me pressing down some sand that broke loose while trying to release the mold. Don’t be afraid the go back and pack any loose sand.  You can see once I release my mold some sand fell in the negative mold space. Blow that out. If I you leave it there it will be a hole once you pour your silver. Missing chunks of sand equals filled in space, extra sand in spots equals a hole. Pack all the sand down. No loose sand. Pull your drill through one more time to make sure the hole didn’t get covered when you were making your sprue  Flask are ready for hot Liquid Metal • • • #silversmith #sandcasting #metalsmith #diycastingtips

I am simply having the best time making them. I ran out of casting grain (casting grain is the metal granules I melt down to cast these charms) and some more should be here at the end of this week! I’ve been working on my longer YouTube video for a little while now. Finally had time to edit it all and show you how I was able to create a channel setting by sandcasting cubic zirconia stones in a row. This did take a few try’s to perfect, laying the stones is the key part. It’s very fiddly and can really test your patience so if your trying this just take your time and enjoy the results ☺️ Sand casting can make you want to jump with joy when it’s successful or cry when you realise you have to start all over 🙈 but that makes the successes totally worth it. I am no expert in sand casting, I just enjoy trying new things. So if you find this fun to watch or useful then that will certainly make me happy.
