MY✨All about the Easter Egger✨
✨Easter Eggers are typically friendly chickens, making them an excellent choice for novice chicken keepers. They are low maintenance and generally thrive in any climate.
✨Since they are considered a “Hybrid Breed” (cross between 2 breeds of chicken), Easter Eggers can vary wildly in appearance. They might have beards, muffs, feathered legs, and or pea combs, no tail, and vary in color. You never know what you are going to get!
✨The Color egg can vary from blue, green, light brown to pinkish. What they lay their 1st time will remain the same throughout their life. The color will not change.
✨They are pretty good layers, laying at least 4 eggs a week and up to 280 eggs a year.
This sweet girl featured just started laying in late July at around 4 months old and was giving me 5-6 eggs a week. She lays a light green egg. She is also one of the friendliest birds in my flock.

The easter egger is by far one of the best backyard chicken breed
They are very friendly, do great in confinement, and lay 150-200 eggs a year. Their blue/green eggs add color to your egg baskets.
A great breed to start out with if you’re a beginner.

MEEaster Eggers are such a fun chicken breed!
If you’re looking for specific egg colors with your flock they may not be the chicken for you, but if you’re up for a fun surprise they are perfect!
Easter Eggers are a mix between an Araucana (blue egg layers) and a brown egg layer, so they can lay a number of egg colors from hues of blue or green to shades of brown or even pink. You won’t know what color eggs your Easter Egger hen will lay until she gives you her first one, and then she will lay that color for the rest of her days. Even their feather coloring is a guessing game until they’re grown and fully feathered.
I love that we can have a flock of all Easter Egger girls and they all have their own look and we have a colorful egg basket full of blues and greens and one who lays pink eggs. They’re also friendly, hardy, and great producers, laying up to 280 eggs per year.
I think the next time we get chicks I do want to try a few other breeds just for more variety, but I’ll always have an Easter Egger or two in our flock. They may be seen as the mutt of the chicken world, but they definitely have a special place in my heart!

DIEaster Eggers are a backyard flock favorite — and for good reason!
🌈 They’re known for their colorful eggs, which can range from blue to green, and even pinkish hues!
🐔 Technically, Easter Eggers aren’t a recognized breed — they’re a mixed-breed chicken that carries the blue egg gene, which means every hen is a little different in looks, size, and personality! They often have puffy cheeks, but ours is puffy cheek-less and has a crest instead!
🥚 They’re consistent layers, typically giving you 4–5 medium to large eggs per week
🤗 Friendly and curious, Easter Eggers are often great with kids and make wonderful pets
❄️ Hardy in both hot and cold climates — a great pick for most regions!

THEaster Eggers are not a true registered chicken breed. They are any chicken bred from the Ameraucana or Araucana breeds; which carry a special “blue-egg” gene. These mixed breed chickens come in a wide variety of colors and feather patterns and produce colorful eggs like: blue, pink, green, sage,or yellow. Breeders started to mix their Ameraucana or Araucana with other breeds and the colored eggs that were produced led to new, hybrid Easter Eggers.
Easter Eggers tend to be:
- friendly
- strong egg producers at 280 large eggs/year
- smaller than the average hen at 4 pounds
- great foragers and love to explore
- predator awareness
- found lower down in the pecking order due to passive nature
- smaller wattles and combs
- heat and cold hardy
- one particular Easter Egger doesn’t lay a variety of egg colors, but will have their “own set color”
