HYReal VS Game
Back again this time on @360motorsportspark. You may notice the game is not 1:1 with real life. I could change my sim driving to "act" like real, but in reality it's only the transition points which are different.
If we look at how much handbrake is used, how the steering is fed mid corner and the throttle input used - its fairly close.
So why are the transitions not 1:1 or even close like in the other video from Watergrasshill Kartworld?
1. It's plausibile the virtual track is not super accurate. In the first video I did, the track was created from 1m lidar scan which is very accurate. This track (360MSP) has been created from scratch using data that could be upwards of 10m inaccuracies.
2. The game S14 I'm driving is a little different suspension geo wise and is running a tyre a little "less" grippy than the real car. It also has more steering angle and is probably a little too light. I could fix these "problems" easily but point 1 above would stay showing the same differences.
3. The game physics engine. I've noticed in the past that the game generally runs faster than real life. What I mean is, to make the game match the real world you need less grip, or just make the game car slower in general. I'm not 100% sure on this, but you can see the game car catches up very quickly after the first 2 transitions.

Sim driving prepared me for entering real world drift car driving first hand. I started sim drifting in 2016, and started drifting IRL in 2020.
Sim driving allowed me to capture muscle memory and skills that translated directly to real life driving experience on track.
