SCReady to take your singing power to the rockstar level? 🎤 Here are six tips to help.
1️⃣ Breathe for Power
Your voice is fueled by breath. Instead of raising your shoulders, breathe deep into your belly and control airflow with strong core muscles. Try practicing in front of a mirror to make sure your shoulders stay relaxed. This builds strength and endurance.
2️⃣ Posture is Everything
Think of your body as the instrument. Align your ears, shoulders, hips, and knees, keeping your shoulders back and down. With solid posture, your breath flows more efficiently, giving your voice the freedom to soar.
3️⃣ Master the Mixed Voice
Chest voice adds grit, head voice adds range. The magic happens when you blend them. This balance lets you belt high notes without strain. No more cracking, shouting, or losing your voice mid-song.
4️⃣ Protect Your Voice
Technique matters, but so does self-care. Stay hydrated, rest, and never push through pain. If it hurts, stop and recover. You only get one voice, and protecting it means you can keep rocking for years to come.
5️⃣ Sing with Emotion
A great vocalist doesn’t just sing, they perform. Connect with your song, use your face and body, and let the audience feel your story. Watch your favorite singers for inspiration, then practice in the mirror to bring it to life.
6️⃣ Add Rock ’n’ Roll Grit
Want that signature raspy edge? Use a glottal attack. It’s a quick burst of air at the start of a vowel (think “huh!” like lifting something heavy). This technique is best practiced with guidance from a vocal coach.
Nail the fundamentals, take care of yourself, and pour your heart into every performance. That’s what makes a true rockstar!

KCLet’s talk about vocal fold closure ⚡️
When you sing low, your vocal folds are thick and can usually close pretty tightly over your airflow.
But as you move into your high range
➡️ your vocal folds get long and thin
➡️ & it’s harder to close them tightly over your airflow
…that’s why your high range always sounds breathy and is much quieter.
If you want to have power in the high range, you need to train vocal fold closure in the higher notes.
This includes controlling how much air pressure you’re blasting at these thin/long folds.
