Computer engineering — you can 100% go into a software role after studying this! Computer engineers share many core classes with CS students. The difference lies in the electrical engineering classes you take that give you a different skill set than computer science majors.
CE majors are generally known for having a better grasp of the hardware and working with low level software. C is my favourite language just because I can see everything that is happening — nothing is hidden behind obscure properties and functions. That type of control is really important when you’re working with bitmaps and exact memory manipulation. We have less experience with web dev and leetcode, so we tend to “lose” against computer science students in that regard.
My experiences in both CS and CE courses can be summed up by the following: If CS is equivalent to being taught how to swim, CE is closer to getting pushed into the pool and swimming because otherwise you’ll drown. Do with that information what you will 🤷♀️

HUWhy do I want to become a software engineer? 🤔
Becoming a software engineer has been a dream of mine for so many reasons:
1️⃣ Flexibility: I love the idea that all I need is my laptop to get creative and productive. Whether it’s at a cafe, on the couch, or somewhere new, I can work anywhere and make things happen 💻☕.
2️⃣ Let’s be real—the salary is a definite plus 😂. It’s motivating to know that doing something I enjoy can also provide financial stability.
3️⃣ Combining tech with design: I’ve always been drawn to web development and design, but I’m terrible at drawing! Software engineering lets me create stunning, functional designs without needing to be an artist 🎨💡.
4️⃣ Remote work: The option to work from anywhere in the world is so appealing. It opens up so many possibilities for how and where I can live while pursuing my career 📍✈️.
5️⃣ Freelance opportunities: Software engineering offers endless ways to grow, whether it’s through side gigs, freelancing, or working on my own projects. It’s exciting to have such freedom and potential for variety in my work 🚀.
These are just a few reasons why I’m so passionate about this career path. It’s the perfect mix of creativity, logic, and opportunity, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me! 🌟
