Day 68 of starting solid foods with my baby: Tomahawk steak with chimmichurri and compound butter, full recipe below - she wasn’t a fan. 🥲 Ended up giving her a leftover piece the next day and she ended up gnawing on it! In baby led weaning babies often just suck juices and explore the texture rather than eating large chunks, it’s a great way to introduce iron. Compound butter: Ingredients: * 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature * 2-3 cloves fresh garlic, finely minced or grated * 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped * 1 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped * 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped * 1 tsp lemon zest (optional, but adds brightness) * 1/2 tsp kosher salt, or to taste * 1/4 tsp black pepper, or to taste  Instructions: 1. Combine ingredients: In a medium bowl, mash all ingredients together with a fork or spatula until evenly combined. 2. Shape: Scrape the mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper. Form it into a log shape and roll it up tightly, twisting the ends like a candy wrapper to seal. 3. Chill: Refrigerate for at least one hour (or freeze for 15-20 minutes) until the butter is firm enough to slice.  Recipe continued in comments 📌 #blwinspiration #steak #steaklover #steakdinner #babyfoodideas baby led weaning, easy steak recipe

🍖 If your baby is starting solids soon… meat stock is a great food to introduce as it’s loaded with amino acids + minerals, and super nourishing for little tummies! To be clear, meat stock is not bone broth - it’s made by simmering meaty bones (think chicken drumsticks, beef shanks, oxtail, knuckle bones) for a few hours to pull out collagen, gelatin, and proteins that support digestion, immunity, and overall development 🙌 How to serve (Texture Timeline™ Phase 1):
Offer small sips from an open cup, let baby self-feed with a pre-loaded spoon, or mix it into purées, mashed veggies, grains, soups, or meats to instantly boost nutrition. Safety notes: - The meat stock itself isn’t a choking risk - it dissolves with minimal pressure from baby’s gums - Make sure you remove/strain any firm fat pieces before offering to baby - Meat isn’t one of the top 10 allergens, but reactions are still possible. If you notice symptoms, pause and check in with your baby’s doctor 🌟 If you’re ready to learn how to confidently feed your baby with purées or finger foods and safely serve all foods, join our Baby Led Feeding program! The program is expert-led, completely comprehensive and shows how to set up mealtimes, progress in textures, serve all types of food, manage gagging, prevent choking, introduce allergens, and so much more! I made my baby a tomahawk steak today and the nutrition in this one food always surprises people. Red meat is one of the easiest ways for babies to meet their iron needs which support brain development during the fastest growth phase of their life. It also provides natural B vitamins, healthy fats, collagen, and amino acids that help with strength, energy, and overall growth. Chewing foods like this is not just about eating. It helps train the jaw, tongue, and mouth to work the way they are meant to which supports speech, airway health, and proper facial development. Babies learn how to move food safely in their mouth when they practice with real textures. This meal looks dramatic but it is actually simple to prepare and incredibly nourishing for little ones. This should be one of the very first foods your baby ever eats and almost no one talks about it. Babies are born with an immature and highly permeable gut. That’s normal, but it also means the first foods you choose play a huge role in how the gut lining matures and how nutrients are absorbed. Meat stock is uniquely supportive during this stage. Why meat stock matters • Rich in gelatin and amino acids like glycine and proline that support the gut lining as it develops • Provides minerals like calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus in a form babies can actually absorb • Cooked for a short time, making it naturally lower in histamines and much gentler on digestion • Supports immune development since the majority of the immune system lives in the gut • Early gut support impacts brain development, nutrient absorption, and long term health This is not the same as bone broth. Bone broth is cooked for 12–24+ hours and is designed for deep mineral extraction for adults. Meat stock is cooked gently and briefly to support digestion first. Baby meat stock recipe Ingredients 1 to 1.5 lb high quality meat with bone Chicken thighs, drumsticks, lamb chops, beef shank Optional 1 marrow bone Filtered water Optional 2 thin carrot slices for flavor only How to make Place raw meat and bones in a pot or slow cooker Cover with water- I covered mine by 6 inches Simmer GENTLY (never bring to a boil) Chicken 2 to 3 hours Beef or lamb 3 to 4 hours Slow cooker option Low for 6 to 8 hours Skim foam early if needed Do not add salt or vinegar Strain and discard bones Shred meat for baby meals How to serve Start with 1 to 2 teaspoons as is or mixed into food or purées Increase slowly Comment ebook and I’ll send you the link to my baby’s first foods ebook with recipes for every stage of your baby’s life - launching in a couple weeks! #babysfirstfoods #startingbabysolids #babynutrition #firstfoods #startingsolids

Feeding your baby liver, meat stock, egg yolks, and bone marrow, is NOT meant to be the carnivore diet for babies! These are some of the most nutrient-dense foods available and are *excellent* options for babies starting solids, but they don’t need to be the only foods your baby ever eats. From 6–12 months, babies’ primary needs are fat and iron, and these traditional/ancestral foods deliver far more than cereals, grains, or veggies do. But babies still need balance- fat, protein, carbohydrates, iron, vitamin C, minerals, etc are ALL important. Incorporating these nutrient-dense animal foods alongside gentle veggies, fruits, high quality dairy, and family meals still offers a powerful nutrient boost without swinging to extremes. 👋🏼 Hi, I’m April! I’m a Certified Maternal & Infant Nutritionist and I help moms learn how to introduce ancestral first foods with balance- and without feeling overwhelmed. Meat stock is one of the most gentle first foods for a 6-month-old 🤍 Rich in minerals, gut-healing collagen, and made with love-this is where real nourishment begins. Izrah loved his meat stock and we freezed the rest, you can also add it to any pureé so that it’s softer on the gut. MEAT STOCK RECIPE 🍶 Ingredients: -Previously used marrow bones (from your bone marrow whip) recipe on my page -Lamb neck/shank meat -1–2 carrots, roughly chopped -1 celery stalk, chopped -Good quality salt to taste (no table salt) - OPTIONAL -Filtered water (to cover) -Fresh parsley -Olive oil Method: 1.Place the used marrow bones and meat into a large pot. Brown them first with some olive oil. 2.Add the vegetables and garlic. 3.Cover completely with filtered water. 4.Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a low simmer. 5.Simmer for 2-4 hours on very low heat. 6.Skim off any foam that rises. 7.Strain the meat stock and discard solids. 8.Store in glass jars or freeze in small portions. How to serve it to your baba: -Start with 1–2 teaspoons or try giving it in a cup -Serve warm on a spoon or mix into puréed foods -Increase slowly as tolerated #firstfoods #meatstock #babyrecipes
