LISTORYTIME!
I was about three hours away in a different state for an assignment lasting a few days.
They put me in a pretty decent hotel, and because of my recent encounter with bedbugs, I made sure to check my mattress.
Clear.
Next day, I noticed something bit me, and it went downhill from there. I couldn’t see what it was, and I couldn’t find what bit me. 😩
I was so annoyed because I had just gone through all those bedbugs AND also recently got stung by jellyfish (but that’s another story 🙃🙃).
I was at work and my hand and arm starting to feel tingling and numbness.
My wrist and elbow were super swollen and even the staff were concerned.
The redness spread further and further down my arm as the day progressed.
No bueno 🙅🏾♀️
I went to urgent care and they gave me steroids and antibiotics.
After I was done with the assignment and went home, I noticed there was not any change in this swelling and redness continue to spread.
I went to urgent care again and they gave me a stronger antibiotic. That finally worked.
Moral of the story — creatures love me and make sure you have your disability insurance in order.

TYI stepped in some black, thick, sticky goo on the beach and could not get it off.
When I tried to wash it off it stuck to my hands and other body parts and just made the situation worse. Honestly I got a little scared not knowing what it was. It ended up just being tar.
Why tar is on the beach is a much bigger issue but I digress…
My @gldngrl73 saved the day by looking up on @google how to remove it because soap and water wasn’t working. Turns out @vaselinebrand does the trick. Who knew 🤷🏾♂️
I was kinda hoping I would turn into a supervillain 🦹🏾 Maybe I’ll try a spider bite 🕷️

DAI saw a story in the Boston globe this past week about New England having one of its worst tick seasons ever!😱😩
When I was a dermatology resident at Harvard, I collected multiple cases from the emergency department of Lyme Disease that involved a blistering rash on the back of the knee. The ER docs were always baffled and would call the site a bout of cellulitis or an infected spider bite but after seeing enough of these cases, my residency program has coined the term “Sugai Sign” for any blister that formed on the back of the knee especially in the summertime as these would usually be accompanied with an elevated Lyme titer on blood work.
👉Be sure to remove the tick as much as possible with tweezers (use your hands as a very last resort 😨) and pulling straight off the skin at the tick’s mouth right at its insertion into the skin and try to take a photo of the tick for your doctor to see (the deer tick as a distinct shield compared to the other types of ticks).

What does this look like? AGEP!
Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis = sudden outbreak of tiny sterile pustules, often after meds — but yes, even spider bites (👋 brown recluse) can trigger it.
The good news?
Remove the trigger → it usually clears fast.
Moral of the story: sometimes the spider is guilty.
