WHThe Spirometry breathing test measures how much air you can breathe in and out of your lungs, as well as how easily and fast you can blow the air out of your lungs.
For some MND starts in the lower body crippling their lower half before gradually making its way up the body and for others like me MND starts in the top half which rapidly affects speech, mouth functions such as eating and swallowing and of course breathing.
The final stages of MND will usually involve gradual weakening of the breathing muscles and increasing sleepiness. This is usually the cause of death, either because of an infection or because the breathing muscles stop working.
