Watch me as I increase my spring rates and add a helper spring to my front coils. As you can see, the helper springs was a little wide for the original spring perch so I laser cut some a1 tool steel I had laying around and used that as a spacer. The spacer is just shy of .2000 inch (kissed top and bottom on a surface grinder). Took about 9-8 thou off each side, beveled the edge and laser etched some info out of habit. I am very happy with how these came out AND even more happy I can do everything myself 💪

Running a coilover and bypass at each corner is definitely a recipe for a killer suspension set up, but if you are missing the most important ingredient, tuning, your Soufflé A La Shocks ain’t going to set. Ali with @fastfriends.fun has a pretty rowdy Jeep with all the bells and whistles including the best of the best from the @bilsteinus Off Road Catalog. It has potential to be unstoppable almost everywhere but was far from optimized to do it. @bilsteinus does an amazing job with their universal and motorsport lines of shocks usually offering more than one off the shelf valving option in each length so you can do what Ali did, and at least get something that works and is safe to drive while you make sure everything else custom you did works. That said despite the suspension being safe to drive, it was far from the feel he was expecting considering the valving had not been specifically optimized for his vehicle or needs, and just as if not more critically, the spring rates were just plain wrong. Half of his coilovers are sitting on the spring crossovers and the other half would never touch them no matter how big of a bump you hit. Not to mention things are further being skewed by the fact that the Jeep lost about 1500 lbs since those incorrect springs were specced so it’s time to start at ground zero. These shocks were ridden hard and put away wet, so step one was a quick rebuild so the Jeep is mobile again, at which point Ali is going to set preload or more specifically ride height. We can use this along with a few other measurements to not only approximate corner weight but also get spring rates better optimized so that the shocks can do their jobs and he actually gets the benefits of a dual spring set up. After that, the next step is a rip out at the testing grounds to confirm our suspicions in terms of tuning. We already know they will need a near complete rethink of the existing shim stack or valving, and we even have an idea of what we are going to do as is, but NOTHING beats real world testing. So given the opportunity we will always test before tuning, but stay tuned because we will be taking you through every step of the way #shocks101
