Deutschland kommt der Kernfusion spürbar näher. Am Forschungsreaktor Wendelstein 7-X gelingt es, extrem heißes Plasma über längere Zeit stabil zu halten. Genau das gilt als größte technische Hürde für CO₂-freie Fusionsenergie. Der Reaktor in Greifswald gehört zu den fortschrittlichsten Experimenten weltweit. Er zeigt, dass das Stellarator-Prinzip funktioniert und Fusionsprozesse kontrollierbar sind, ohne Emissionen und mit minimalem radioaktivem Abfall. Noch ist das keine Stromquelle für das Netz. Die Ergebnisse zeigen jedoch, dass Kernfusion technisch machbar wird und langfristig die globale Energieerzeugung verändern könnte.
