AMHello honey!
Let’s talk about Katrina Larner ( @katrinalarna ). I want to start off by saying that she’s really talented - she tattoos people (check out @kat_scratchz , just look at how beautiful those works are) and is a musician, in her own words, she “slays percussion&bass for @bananapup.music ”
But I’m here to tell you about her animations. You can see before you a little trailer for her short film Play Fight! (you can watch the full version on youtube - just search for “Play Fight! | RISD Senior Thesis Film 2025” on the Katrina Larner channel). If you like the style, I really recommend watching the full version for yourself. Even if you’re not initially into it, just go and leave a like to support her.
The story is a really unique take on a “girls night” lol. When I first watched it, it felt super fast and action-packed, but on my second watch, I realized that everything makes sense and I understood the ideas the author was conveying. Don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s this particular scene with a blanket that felt deeply touching. Just go watch it - it’s really good.
I also want to note the sound design. Here, we can really see Katrina the musician shine. In this film, it’s amazing - but she also made another short called My Horse Tattoo, and the way she implemented sound in that film is crazy. It feels almost like ASMR ngl. Give it a watch as well, it’s really nice (You can find it on her website, which is really cool too).
This “rawness” in her style feels so real, you know? I’d love to see some of her future works continue in this style - I think it would be a great choice to expand it without changing it.
So yeah, Katrina and her team did a fantastic job on this short film. Let’s wish them luck at festivals this fall - I think audiences are going to love it.

ANHere is the promised video on how to make hidden articulation for movable paper puppets for stop-motion animation🍄 I tried my best to explain it in the easiest way possible 🤭 Hope you will enjoy. Also, please feel free to ask any question or to bring some ideas for my next video.
I learned this technique from amazing Sophie Roze during my stay at @folimage residency. If you have a project idea for short film you should definitely check out this wonderful opportunity.
If you want to make something like this with kids I will explain simpler method of articulation in another video.

CLI challenge you to create a stop motion animation out of trash or garbage!
You can make something arty, make a character, make a story, make an effect. Anything! Just make it creative!
It doesn’t need to be 100% trash. You can use other materials, objects or puppets in the video, as long as trash plays a main role.
Anybody can enter (Professionals or beginners).
There is no prize, but I will choose the 6 most creative stop motion videos and repost them on my account, to help give you some exposure.
- You cannot use an old video. You need to create a new video for the challenge.
- Upload it to Instagram on or before the 19 March 2023
- Use the hashtag #stopmotrash
And please tag me in the video.
- Your video can be any length, but less than 1 minute is best.
- The best ratio size for Instagram reels is vertical 1080x1920 (but any size video will be accepted)
- The video must be made frame by frame with stop motion, but you can add a few small digital effects.
18 March is Global Recycling Day, so keep that in mind if you want to make an eco-friendly video.
