This is #arcflash How much incident energy can it be? Some numbers and assumptions first as we don't know all data. From video I know it is 65kA test and size of compartment fits typical IEEE1584 Switchgear. I used HCB as a reference point as energy explosion looks like this. For tripping time 300ms IE= 28 cal/cm2 ❗ For tripping time 500ms IE= 48 cal/cm2 ❌ This was just fun test but such situations exists in real life more often than expected. Especially on supply side of main panels. What can we do with it? We can lower time on upstream protection - trip time 100ms this will result in 9.6 cal/cm2 - good but probably bad for selectivity in this case We can use Maintenance Mode settings - trip time 50ms this will result in 4.8 cal/cm2 - very good, we need proper trip unit and it is limited to section after protective device, temporary worse selectivity We can use Arc Detection - trip time 30-50ms this will result in 2,8 to 4.8 cal/cm2 - very good, limited to sensors area and section after protective device, no influence on selectivity I usually I approach it in this order but it very depends on possible hardware options, customer approach and site specific solutions.
