And it hurt to read. In a “I know” way. I know it’s not my fault. But god I wish I knew then, what I know now. 😭
I don’t ever want this to happen to another family. We will find out soon if Abigail suffered a TBI or if it’s mostly due to Encepahlitis from the huge number of seizures she experienced in a short amount of time that she was extremely sick in 2025 and the month long fever. But it sure is pointing to that.
Obviously traumatic brain injuries and encephalitis can happen to anyone but I do wish I knew this information having know Abigail’s diagnosis of Dravet syndrome.
I wish I knew
- That as much as I hate medications because they are heavily addictive especially the ones Abi takes when she is sick, but that they’re probably lesser evil when it comes to prolonged and numerous seizures in a short amount of time
- I wish I knew that the gut and the brain are the most important things you need to focus on when someone has epilepsy. The gut directly affects the brain and vice versa. Abigail was on a regular diet just because it was easier for me and I wanted her to have some freedom like other children. (I don’t hate myself for doing this I get why I did but I regret it)
- I wish I knew more about antibiotics and how to look after the gut microbiome after having to use them
- I wish I knew about using D Mannosse daily for someone with a history of UTIs and once again what to feed the gut.
- I wish I knew that although riding out a fever can help it pass sooner as is what our body intends, but if it goes on for too long then it can cause brain inflammation.
- I wish out of all the money I have spent I had of gotten a stool test much sooner as this would have stopped me in my tracks and made me realise how bad things were in there.
- I wish I pushed for an MRI
Maybe if I would have read this from another dravet mum would I of acted. I hope you take it seriously if you do because the moment that gut or brain inflammation passes a threshold. You’re likely go to be in for it. Continued in comments
