Share with someone who makes this mistake 🚀 , Tricep dips on a machine are an excellent way to target all three heads of the triceps, with a primary focus on the lateral and medial heads. However, many people make a mistake when they use too much weight, leading to shoulder shrugging during each rep. This can reduce the effectiveness of the exercise by shifting the focus to your shoulders instead of your triceps. 👉 Why is this a problem? Shrugging your shoulders causes scapular elevation, which leads to using more of the shoulder muscles (up to 60%), leaving your triceps only around 40% engaged. This not only hinders your tricep gains but could also increase the risk of injury. ✅ The solution: To really target your triceps, reduce the weight so you can perform controlled reps. Keep your shoulder blades pulled down and locked in place throughout the movement. My biggest gripe with the machine tricep extensions (the one that looks like a preacher curl with the arm installed backwards lol) is it quickly turns to an ab exercise if you don’t use the feet anchor correctly. Instead of Dorsiflexing and pointing your feet up towards the anchor, l actually recommend digging the top of your foot into the anchor and plantar flexing into the ground (thus lifting the heel up). You’ll get better stability this way so you’ll feel it less in your abs. #fitness #gym

How to Do Tricep Pressdowns Correctly for Bigger Arms 💪 Straight Bar Target Muscle: Arms – Triceps Equipment: Resistance Band / Cable Difficulty: Beginner 🟢 Step 1 – Start Position Stand facing the cable machine, set the pulley above head height, and attach the straight bar. Grip fully (thumb around the bar), take a step back, feet hip-width or in a staggered stance. Brace your core to maintain the natural spine curve and keep your torso vertical. Pull shoulders down & back and maintain this posture throughout. Slowly let the bar down to starting position where elbows align with midline, arms stay close to the body, and wrists are neutral. Hold this setup for the whole movement. 🟢 Step 2 – Press Down Exhale and slowly push the bar down, keeping elbows, shoulders, torso, and wrists stable. Don’t let the bar control the path. 🟢 Step 3 – Full Extension & Return Continue pressing down, keeping elbows tight to the body until nearly fully extended (do not lock out). Pause briefly, then return under control to the start. Bar should rise only until elbows start moving forward past the midline (around upper chest level). Beyond this, tricep engagement drops, so return before this point. 🟢 Step 4 – Variation With a straight bar, this exercise cannot be done single-arm; always use both hands. Technical Tip: If elbows drift forward, lats take over, reducing tricep focus.
