FUThat one time when the U.S. government announced that beginning in December of this year, all eligible males will be automatically signed up for the draft - an escalation from what was previously a mandated self-registration.
Under the Fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act which went into effect late last year, the Selective Service System will now be able to tap into existing government data, such as Social Security Administration information, to automatically register all 18- to 26-year-old men. The deadline to implement the system is in December of this year.
Previously, men were required to register themselves for the draft when they turned 18. Failure to do so was considered a felony and carried potential financial fines and even prison time. In 40 states, it also limited their ability to receive a driver’s license.
Opponents of automatic registration believe allowing the Selective Service System to access other government databases is an invasion of privacy.
The system may also automatically register men who are ineligible to serve, like those with certain disabilities. It would then be on those individuals to notify the government that they were registered incorrectly.

CNCNN's Jake Tapper explains that eligible men in the US will automatically be registered by the government for the draft instead of having to register in person.
Tapper says that the measure was actually signed into legislation last December but the rule is getting recent attention because the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs posted the rule today.

CUChina is drafting AI regulations that require every AI-generated digital human to be labeled. They ban virtual intimate relationships with minors. They mandate intervention when users show signs of self-harm. They require consent before anyone's likeness is used to create a digital version.
The US has none of this.
It's collectivism vs. individualism. In collectivist cultures, the state sees itself as responsible for the well-being of its people. It acts before harm happens. In individualist cultures like the US, the assumption is that companies determine what is safe. Regulation is government interference.
One system protects its citizens proactively. The other waits for the harm, then debates whether regulations should exist.
