The Battle of Vimy Ridge, a pivotal moment in World War I, where the bravery of those who fought and fell echoes through time. It’s a story of resilience, unity, and the indomitable human spirit.
Aujourd’hui, en tant que membre du Parlement et députée du comté de Vimy, je tien à honorer leur sacrifice et préservons, ensemble, leur héritage.
Today, as the Member of Parliament for Vimy, I would like to remember and commemorate their sacrifice. Their courage echoes in the winds that sweep across Vimy Ridge, a reminder of the price of freedom and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

GRToday we remember the almost 58,000 men who were killed, Wounded and missing on this day 109 years ago.
We also remember the lads who did make it home but had to live with the memories of this day for the rest of their lives.

IRBack again here this #Humpday, #DailyInsta, #Instagramdaily,#InstaDaily to continue the #Vickers theme having posted about the #VickersWellington #bomber, it's time to show a replica of one of it's forebears the #VickersVimy that was flown across the #AtlanticOcean by #AlcockAndBrown. With the original at the Science #Museium in London, with the replica on display at @brooklandsmuseum
As for the #Wellington bomber the #Vimy was designed by Vicker's Chief Designer of the time #RexPierson and first flew with the #RoyalFlyingCorps (the forerunner of the #RAF in November 1917) however it did not enter service to see action in the #FirstWorldWar.

L’œuvre la plus marquante de la galerie est la réplique du monument de Vimy, inauguré le 28 juillet 1936 à Vimy dans le nord de la France. Sculptée par Louis Leygue et taillée dans le traversin ocré, elle rappelle l’engagement héroïque des armées canadiennes sur le sol français en 1917 et rend hommage aux 60 000 Canadiens morts en France lors de la Première Guerre mondiale.
Pour réchauffer l’atmosphère de cet espace minéral, on y accrochera après-guerre des teintures d’Aubusson, tissées en 1940 d’après les cartons du peintre Marcel Gromaire, elles représentent les Quatre saisons en France : le printemps à Paris, l’été en Bretagne et l’hiver dans les Alpes (l’automne dans les Flandres est exposée dans les appartements privés de l’ambassadeur).
La Marianne, figure symbolique de la République française, représente la République française et ses valeurs contenues dans la devise : « Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité ».

The most outstanding work in the Gallery, is a replica of the Vimy Monument, inaugurated on July 28, 1936 in Vimy (Northern France). Sculpted by Louis Leygue into the ochre travertine wall, this reproduction comemorates the heroic service of the Canadian forces on French soil in 1917 and pays tribute to the 60 000 Canadian soldiers who died to free France during World War I.
To warm up the atmosphere of this mineral setting, hangings from Aubusson, woven in 1940 from sketches by painter Marcel Gromaire, were added after the war. They represent the 4 seasons in France: Spring in Paris, Summer in Brittany and Winter in the Alps (the fourth, Fall in Flanders, hangs in the ambassador’s private apartments).
The Marianne, the symbolic figure of the French Republic, represents the French Republic and its values contained in the motto: « Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité ».
