Want to work in some of the most amazing wildlife hotspots around the world? These are my TOP 5 favourite countries to work as a wildlife conservationist 🌍⬇️ (and how you can work there too)! 🐨 Australia – My own backyard. I’ll never forget treating the koalas and kangaroos during the devastating 2020 fires here. Watching these survivors heal and return to the trees will stay with me forever. It also helped me to view my “own wildlife” with a new appreciation. 🇨🇷 Costa Rica – Using fish skin bandages to manage burn wounds in sloths caused by electrocution from power lines. These cases, for me, were a reminder of how much can be achieved in conservation with a little creativity and innovation. 🦏 South Africa – From dehorning rhinos to protect them from poaching, to relocating giraffes to safer areas, every project here is a testament to how much can be accomplished when people come together to protect wildlife. 🦍 Gabon – Deep in the jungle, we worked with incredible teams to rescue critically endangered great apes orphaned by poaching. Seeing a gorilla take his first steps in safety is something that stays with you forever. 🐘 Thailand – Prosthetics aren’t just for humans. Helping an elephant walk again after losing a leg to a landmine was one of the most awe-inspiring collaborations I’ve ever been part of. 🩺 Tanzania – In the heart of Maasai land, we tackled One Health challenges, ensuring that both wildlife and communities could thrive. Conservation here is as much about people as it is about animals. Want to work in these incredible places? Subscribe to my newsletter for tips on how to get started and join the waitlist to be sent a freebie guide on registering to work in these countries as a professional. Just comment “newsletter” below and I’ll send you a link to subscribe! Let me know if you’ve worked in any of these amazing places, or where your favourite is! Would love to hear below 🤗💚🌍

Animals are essential for a healthy planet. Through their natural interactions with the environment, they promote pollination and seed dispersal, contribute to nutrient cycling, and maintain balanced food webs. Plus, animals can enhance an ecosystem’s carbon storage capacity by as much as 250%, making them vital allies in the fight against climate change. But beyond their ecological roles, animals have intrinsic value and a right to thrive on a healthy planet, just as we do. Wildlife Conservation Day is a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of all life. By protecting wildlife, we’re taking action for a better planet for all. 🌿 Video clips: @mitalpatelphoto

Is killing wildlife really conservation? No. And pretending otherwise is dishonest. Conservation is about protecting life, not ending it. It’s about restraint, responsibility, and recognizing that our power over the natural world doesn’t give us the right to erase it. Wildlife isn’t a resource to be harvested for ego, convenience, or tradition. These animals are part of complex systems we still barely understand — and once they’re gone, no justification brings them back. Dressing killing up as “management” or “conservation” doesn’t change the reality of what it is. It just makes it easier to look away. If conservation requires a trigger, it isn’t conservation at all. 👉 Do you agree? #conservation #hunting #wildlife #natgeo #naturelovers

Working with zoos has opened my eyes to just how vital they are for conservation and protecting our planet’s wildlife. 🦁🌍 Beyond being a place for people to see animals up close, zoos are on the front lines of saving species from extinction and restoring habitats. Through breeding programs, zoos have brought species like the California condor, black-footed ferret, and Arabian oryx back from the brink. 🕊️🦓 What many people may not realize is how much science, dedication, and care goes into this work—each animal represents hope for its species. Zoos also serve as hubs of education and inspiration. By giving people a chance to experience wildlife firsthand, zoos spark curiosity, empathy, and a drive to protect our natural world. 🌿💚 From childhood to adulthood, seeing these animals up close builds a connection that just isn’t possible any other way. And today, zoos are leading global conservation initiatives, from rewilding programs to supporting field research and habitat restoration efforts worldwide. Being part of this mission has shown me the powerful impact we can have when we combine knowledge, compassion, and action. 🧬💫 Zoos are essential to the future of conservation—because every effort, no matter how small, contributes to a bigger picture of protecting life on Earth. 🌎💪 #ZooConservation #WildlifeProtection #SavingSpecies

how to find ethical opportunities in wildlife conservation 🍃🦏🦚🦩🪸🪼 There are a lot of resources online about unethical wildlife volunteering programmes and organisations, but what about the ethical ones? Now it does depend what type of organisation you are talking about – I am generalising here programmes which aim to provide in-field practical experience in wildlife management and research! Animal husbandry has a lot more specifics to it (for example) 🐶 My top questions for assessing an organisation are: 1.     Are they publishing scientific articles or partnered with academics / academic institutions? If the answer to any of that is yes, that’s a big GREEN flag. This shows the research projects they run are being positively peer reviewed indicating a high calibre of researchers, so great people to learn from 2.     Do they encourage or promote physical interactions with wildlife? If the answer if yes, this is a RED flag. Wildlife should be respected at all time and physical interactions send the wrong message 3.     Is there transparency regarding funding? This is especially important if you are paying to volunteer. There should be transparency about where that money goes! No one person can evaluate every organisation but following these tips is a good place to start! Leave your other suggestions & tips in the comments! #wildlifeconservation #conservationist #wildlifebiologist #wildlifetravel

Here are 3 real ways anyone can help wildlife—starting today 🐺🐺 1️⃣ Engage on social media Sharing posts, commenting, saving, and amplifying organizations doing the work matters. Visibility can be the difference between a petition gaining traction, a program getting funded, or an issue being seen at all. 2️⃣ Show up in your community Attend state or county wildlife meetings. Learn about the animals and ecosystems in your own backyard. Anyone can speak up, whether it’s to protect a sacred site, a biodiversity hotspot, a trail, or a beach. Showing up is advocacy. 3️⃣ Spend more time in nature The more time we spend outside, the more we care. And the more we care, the more we protect. Bring friends. Bring kids. Build a relationship with the land. Conservation it belongs to all of us. 💬 How are you helping wildlife or nature where you live? (Or what’s one small thing you want to start doing?)
