This video captures a powerful, often overlooked reality about accessibility and eño independence for people who use wheelchairs. Boarding a bus is not just a routine task-it requires well-designed infrastructure, functional ramps, trained staff, and enough time, all working together. According to accessibility studies, one of the biggest daily challenges for wheelchair users is public transport that technically exists but isn't practically usable due to steep ramps, poor alignment, or rushed environments. The effort visible here highlights the physical strength, balance, and problem-solving skills wheelchair users constantly rely on just to navigate spaces that were not originally designed for them. True inclusion isn't about sympathy; it's about universal design, where transportation systems are built so everyone can use them safely, independently, and with dignity. Moments like this remind us that accessibility is not a luxury or special favor-it's a basic requirement for equal participation in society. #onlyoriginals #theoriginals

follow for more accessibility & disability breakdowns 👏🏼 💙Things to note: 💙getting the tube looks different on every line, and even every station. 💙this is a step free street to platform on both sides so no ramps are needed, and this is coded by the blue wheelchair symbol on the tube map. 💙getting the tube can feel scary but I actually prefer it to getting the bus, depending on the route & station. #accessibility #accessibilitymatters #accessibletransportation #accessibletravel

Let’s talk about bus access. In the early 1990s, most UK buses were completely inaccessible. Wheelchair users were excluded from public transport entirely. Activists from the Disabled People’s Direct Action Network (DAN) blocked roads, chained themselves to buses, and forced the country to confront that exclusion. That activism fed directly into the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, which later became the Equality Act 2010. So when people frame the wheelchair space as a “courtesy” during the bus and buggy debate, they’re ignoring history. That space exists because disabled people were willing to be arrested for it. We don’t want priority. We want parity. #DisabilityRights #BritishHistory #Accessibility #DisabledVoices #EqualityForAll
